Hi,
I'm gonna buy a new watermaker. With all of the experience that the community has there's bound to be some really good advice.
Some criteria:
40-60 gph
non proprietary, off the shelf, components
220 volt
automatic operation that can be overridden if necessary power to run it isn't a problem
All advice and counsel is appreciated.
Ray
ps. do sand filters work?
I'd look very close at Cruise-RO. Looks like an excellent system. I have a similar home made 50+ gal/hr. system. In the process of saving money, and learning, I probably spent twice what Cruise-RO's system costs. They have it all figured out. Standard filters and membranes. Half or less than most of the advertised systems of the same size.
Very happy with the SM40. There is nothing onerous about operating a manual system, and the modularity allows a lot of flexibility in the installation.
Rainman is good too. I have chosen it over RO due to no electricalinstallation required.
I would skip manufacturers with outsourced support as likely also some parts of manufacturing outsourced and hence you get corresponding quality and reliability in such a critical component.
I had a Village Marine watermaker and when the automatic stuff failed every 7 years the replacement was $1,500. The total replacement cost was $11,000
I now have a Cruise RO 35 gallon/hr which is 100% manual and the purchase cost was less than $5,000.
I switch it on, set the pressures manually and look at the dials every hour...I can set alot of dials for $7,000.
I totally agree with the manual operation. Besides the feed and high pressure pump, there isn't anything to break. Mine was made by SK Watermakers. https://skwatermakers.net/pages/standard
