VETUS RAW WATER STRAINER - stuck lid

Hey folks.

An on going battle with my VETUS fresh water strainer has come to a head. The cap is stuck, solid, no budging.

Last time this happened I used a shifter/crescent wrench/ adjustable wrench to pry it off, which of course resulted in me cracking the lid and using epoxy to repair. For some reason it is stuck tight. It's a common problem with it. Last time I got it off I used Vaseline around the seal and thread.

I have taken the whole thing off so a vacuum is not the issue.

Any advice? It's the VETUS FTR 330 series. I have ordered new lids x 4 in case I have problems with the other ones.

The strainer is a filter for my Gensemer. As I have a lift put,in the hull with a strainer down there it's a redundant filter so I just joined the hoses, but I would like to put it back on as two are better then one.

Cheers

Re: VETUS RAW WATER STRAINER - stuck lid

My remedy has been a costly one: I replaced these with Groco bronze strainers. One lid shattered so violently that I got pieces in my eyes, be careful with them.
