Velair Airco Experiences

We just got two Velair 16k BTU units installed to our boat. While their stainless steel build and power consumption are impressive, I found their controls to be terrible. We could not get the fans to stop at all even after going below target set temperature.

The vendor who installed it got quite puzzled as well. Manually is practically useless. There is a mobile app that hasn't been updated for 4 years and it doesn't do much either.

Anyone has a Velair unit that had a similar issue or any advice?

I have three 16K units and a 21K unit. Yes, on AC the fans always run at a low speed. I was told that it was the only way the units could tell if AC was needed. Seemed a bit strange to me. I don't think the US distributors are all that knowledgeable about the technology.

Does it also happen to you it keeps running and goes below the set target temperature? For example, last night I set it to 75F but then in the middle of the night it was reading 73F since the fan kept running.

Re: Velair Airco Experiences

On AC the fan always runs, although at a very low speed when AC not needed. There are two temperature readings, one at the thermostat and the other at the sensor on the end of the very long black wiring. Where you put it will change the operation of cooling and the reading at the thermostat. I understand that the sensor on the end of the black wiring actually controls the operation.

Re: Velair Airco Experiences

Correct the fan always runs, same for the old energy hog units.

If it cools down at night to below the thermostat setting then I don’t think it starts heating automatically? I don’t have one yet so don’t know if the thermostat can do that (I have one that does this so it’s possible)

When the fan runs it doesn’t mean the compressor runs.
