Vac-U-Flush Problems

Good morning everyone I just joined the forum and looking forward to being a member.I;ve been having a problem with my vac-u-flush head,the pump seems to be working ,it flushes but then fills right back up almost overflowing and I do not know what to do about it,can anyone help me with answers?thank you...

What is your water source? Fresh or salt? Sounds like your supply valve is not closing.

thanx for replying ,my water source is salt,I can see the clean water coming in but it's like the tank water is not going to my holding tank, it's backing back up in head tank and I can see it bubbling back to head tank.

The Vacuflush systems are specified to use fresh water, not salt.

Shut off the water source, then attempt to flush, observe if the waste is moving to the holding tank or not.

If it is a Vacuflush, then the vacuum generator must operate to generate a vacuum, the holding tank must not be full and the waste line must not be obstructed.

Please provide additional information.

Is there a valve to close off water source.my system draws from water under vessel.this is my first large vessel,I live aboard and just learning things about big boats.thanx so much

I've never seen a Vacuflush run on salt water, but knowing how it works it just doesn't seem like a good idea.. Sure your tank isn't full? I can't imagine those duck bills would like salt water much..

If it is backing up, assuming your tank is not full. Duck valves recommend change every year, I change mine about every 3 years.

Thank you people for replying,I'm not sure if I even have a vacuflush,I can't imagine EggHarbor putting in something designed for fresh water.This vessel is designed for offshore fishing in salt water.I looked @ Egg Harbor owners manual and it doesn't list a manufacturer for the head.It has an elecyric system,you push a button and motor engages and it try's to flush,holding tank is completely empty.

You don't have a vacu-flush, you probably have a jabsco electric toilet.

You push a button to run a macerator to pump the waste out.
If you pushed a pedal and heard a giant sucking sound, you'd have a vacu-flush.


The problem is likely that you need a siphon break on your raw water intake to the toilet. I'm guessing you flush, and the toilet drains, and then you let it sit, it slowly fills up... too much.

If you put a siphon break on the water line you may need to put a solenoid on it so when you flush it closes the siphon break.

Since you're new to boating, you should also know that when urine mixes with salt water it will create mineral deposits that will coat the inside of your hoses, so every year or 3 you will need to take your hoses off and clean them out or replace them. Otherwise you can maintain them by soaking vinegar in the system to get rid of the deposits, and using lots of water to flush the urine from the hoses.
