V-berth water tank Help.

We have a 30 year old aluminum water tank that is corroded and needs replacing.
Our boat is an IP31 and the tank is 70 gallons and lives in the V-berth.

Pulling it out is easy (or seems easy enough), but we aren't sure where to go to get a new one fabricated. We are thinking of using plastic as we've read that it lasts longer and won't corrode. We are in Rock Hall, Maryland, but figure we will have to go to a larger city like Annapolis for company or companies that can do this. If anyone knows of any places or has any advice we are all ears.

Thanks much!

I recommend Triple M Plastics in West Kennebunk, ME.

I've had them make two tanks for me so far.

You can learn more about them at: Triplemplastics.us

Re: V-berth water tank Help.

I'll 2nd Ronco plastic my 80 gal aluminium tank failed last year. Over the winter the marina replaced with 2 plastic tanks from Ronco, the marina let me use their tax number when I ordered so I got it at the wholesale price, saved 50%.

Re: V-berth water tank Help.

I realize that I'm bypassing your question, but addressing the next task. When I was mounting my new plastic water tank under my V-berth I placed it in a secure wood frame, but I wanted more security for the heavy beast in a swell and chop when my bow was pounding into waves. I have had great success with seat belt material has straps holding the tank with the ends bolted to fixed points with fender washers over the strap fabric.

Re: V-berth water tank Help.

Aluminum is the worst material for a water tank, water heater, or waste tank.

Replace with plastic - a standard size ideally or custom if you need to.

Re: V-berth water tank Help.

Moller Marine, Vetus and Todd all make custom marine water tanks. I've seen better results with Moller than the others and I'd suggest West Marine, if you like actually talking to knowledgeable humans, or Jamestown Distributors if you like to remain out there in the Internet Void.

Re: V-berth water tank Help.

We used Dura-Weld as well. Very happy with the quality. This was for a very complex holding tank under the V-Berth. I sent them the old tank, and they replicated it perfectly (except for the leaks)

Re: V-berth water tank Help.

70 gls of water is 583 lbs, while I agree aluminum is not the best watertank, it lasted 31 yrs and the factory tank has all the structural issues sorted out, replacement tank might go another 31 yrs, how long does it need to last?

Re: V-berth water tank Help.

We were able to get dimensions for a replacement plastic tank from the island packet owners group! Simply amazing and saves us so much work.
