TMC toilet water completely drains out

I have a TMC electric toilet that is about 7 years old. Lately, soon after flushing it starts to make a ‘glug glug’ noise and the water in the bowl completely drains out leaving it empty. Other then that it seems to be working well ‘for now’. Any ideas of where I might be able to look for what this issue may be? Thank you.

A worn out flapper valve may be the culprit. You'll find an exploded drawing and parts list in the owners manual TMC Electric toilet owners manual

Hi, what boat do you have and where in relation to the waterline is the toilet fitted?

My boat is a Seawind 1160 and the toilet is above the waterline.

Nice, as Peg has said, look at the flapper valve, they don't last for ever. Also you could look at installing a short rise in the discharge hose with a vented loop, doesn't need to be more than a few inches higher so that it acts as an "s trap" which prevents all the bowl water from ever completely draining out.

Re: TMC toilet water completely drains out

Ok great advice. I’ll check the flapper valve (sounds likely it’s the problem). Thanks again :-)

If you have (and should have) vented loops there may be a joker/flapper/duckbill valve in the neck under the cap. They don't last forever.

Check the duck-bill valve in your siphon breaker. Chances are it is stuck closed, allowing the discharge hose to siphon out almost all the water from the bowl.

Re: TMC toilet water completely drains out

Think #9 has it. In my opinion my toilet is better without flapper/non return valve once you already have a air release device installed, there isn't sufficient room for flapper valve to operate properly any solids would have to be smaller than a pea, and blocks easily.

Another issue to put in your maintenance plan. Just last few days had issue with choked discharge pipe, worked out that scale in pipe had dislodged and got stuck somewhere. Miles from anywhere, I attached a small pump that I have and circulated some acid I had laying about let it soak and eventually restored flow. I would say replace discharge pipe around 4 years.

Re: TMC toilet water completely drains out

7 years? Could also be calcium carbonate deposits on the flapper valve. Try some vinegar overnight. (The TMC, not you.) These are actually really good loos. IMHO.
But having it above the waterline with a functioning vent loop as described by others is also a good idea.
Another small observation is that leaving a wee in the loo rather than instantly flushing can create problems when it combines with salt water in the plumbing.

Re: TMC toilet water completely drains out

inlet valve on top of the bend stuck closed.

Stuck flapper valve would have the opposite effect - the bowl refilling after pump out.
