Ball valve works fine and I was able to unscrew the old PVC fitting by hand. I'm assuming that's why it was leaking (a bit disconcerting). While removing the hose from the barb I put a hole in it so I replaced the hose as well.

Things are buttoned up for now and the leak is stopped. I wanted to fix the immediate leak and then I will replace the whole through hull assembly during my next haul out.

And while you are at it, use the proper sort of hose clamps. That ladder sort WILL fail. And if that skin fitting is below the waterline, fit TWO hose clamps.

Seriously, for the sake of a few $ worth of hose clamps, why would you risk it?

There ARE two hose clamps in the photo.

And what's wrong with the clamps themselves? Can't see whether they are good quality or not from the photo, but they look like Jubilee clips at least according to the design, which are fine.

My bad, I missed the second clamp. (Small phone syndrome)

But I’ve always been told those open ladder style clamps are prone to failure. I’ve certainly seen plenty of them fail. Maybe there’s a good quality sort out there but logic says they are not going to be nearly as strong as the pressed sort AND they present much more edge for corrosion to attack.
