Tail piece washers

The CP- current project- has 10 groco tapered plug bronze seacocks and removable tail pieces. All of which need the fiber washers renewed. I've had two leak and made a washer for one out of thick rubber sheet and used a large diameter O-ring on the other. Both are dry but I'm leery of over tightening them.

Any experience with this? 'Seems I just can't pop down to the local West Marine for the stock washers.

Thanks,
Dennis
