Spectra MPC 5000

Just picked up a (new to me) Newport 400 MKII and am working through the installation.

The PO told me the control cable for the remote MPC5000 was a regular telephone cable (assuming an RJ45), however, the manual states it is not and must be purchased from Spectra.

I know companies have a tendency to stretch the truth on these things in order to sell you their cables, I just wanted to check out there in CF land to see if it is, or is not, an RJ45 cable.

Any experts put there?

Re: Spectra MPC 5000

The cable that runs from the control board to the the display panel is a normal "phone" style cable. Six wire (RJ45?) IIRC. You can easily make your own with readily available tools & supplies (just be sure and get the pin out orientation correct...its easy to crimp on a connector 180 reversed).

There are a number of other cables which connect from the system to the control board, but only that one that runs to the display panel.

It is a six wire cable. There is no crossing of wires. As belizesailor stated, the fittings are just 180 opposite of each other. So on a flat six wire cable splice one end with the six wires parallel to each other and do the same on the other end with the fitting reversed. Think of it this way, if you took the two fittings and placed them back to back of each other this would be the proper orientation with the wires going straight from the back of one fitting straight into the back of the other.

Sounds like an old school cat5 patch cable.
Used to be common in every computer store I went into

It is. It's a straight through pinout.
