Shower pump breaker popping

Hello.... we have a Jabsco impeller Pump which drains our grey shower water tank. A float switch inside the basin actuates the pump when the basin fills. Of late we have been able to empty the basin 3-4 times during a shower but then the breaker pops and cannot be reset until I wait an hour or so. I put an ammeter on the red wire right as we turned on the breaker and saw 29 amps which obviously will kick off a 15 amp breaker. When I let it sit for a while, turn on the breaker the normal cycle is approx 11 amps at startup then immediately drops to a running current of 6-7 amps. This seems normal and the pump cycles on and off perfectly. The motor does not feel hot at any time either when it faults or runs fine.

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated.....thanks...

Re: Shower pump breaker popping

I’d replace the breaker, if you don’t have one, swap it with another, just not a critical one like refrigeration.
Although I can’t explain the 29 amps, it sounds like a locked motor

I’d start with the breaker cause that’s easiest and if you don’t have a spare you need one anyway

Ohm’s Law - resistance is directly proportional to voltage. As is current. Check all connections for solid contact.

Also make sure there isn't debris like hair around the impeller making the motor struggle to start.
