Re: Seized Deckfill Cap

I had the same problem with a 33 year old boat. What I ended up doing was drilling holes alll the way across the cap(10mm I think) till I had a continuous hole across the cap. Then I took a cold chisel and deformed the cap into the holes I had drilled. I couldn't find a cap that fit after destroying the one so for a season I cross threaded PVC ipe into the hole and then replaced the entire fill outlet on both sides.

Re: Seized Deckfill Cap

I had one like this, spent time with different methods.
Eventually brought new one removed hose from inside and replaced.
Old one was so corroded there wouldnt have been anything to use by time had removed.
Save time etc..just replace.

Re: Seized Deckfill Cap

Thanks one and all for all the useful advice. I was fortunately able to get the deck plate up enough to get some leverage underneath and using brute force get the hose clamps high enough to undo from up on deck. I then got the fitting off the filler hose and put it in a vice to try and heat it to see if it could be separated. Even with an oxy torch they wouldn't seperate so have gone into the bin and new fittings on order. Ther next challenge was to replace the aluminium French fitting to match the rest of them, but I have found a distributed and awaiting delivery. Plastisol made the nylon caps with aluminium inserts someone spoke of but seem to have stopped manufacture so I will follow the advice of a little lubrication regularly and not having friends kindly over tighten thinking they are keeping the salt water out. Happy I'm not cutting stainless tanks out of my boat also

Re: Seized Deckfill Cap

Put lanolin on the threads of the new one sparingly and it wont seize.

Drewncrew:

FWIW, if they have an "O" ring, we usually grease them with silicone grease. The lanolin is great for the threads, and might work okay on the rings, no experience with it in that usage.
