Seacock

Hello all.
Newbie (very) question.
Our AC - HPF error.
I flushed it with a barricade buster for about 3 hours. A lot of gunk.
I've added a larger water flow pump since it splits to service two units.
I've hooked a water line directly from the other side of the pump and flushed it...great steady stream output.

My question:
I disconnect the hose at the strainer that connects to the seacock.
When I open the seacock, very little water comes through when I'd expect a gush of water.
I hooked held a wet dry vac and pushed air through the hose and heard bubbles under the boat. Still, very little water coming in.

With the seacock opened that goes to the bottom of the boat, shouldn't water just come rushing in? I'm missing something and not sure what.

Thanks everyone

Re: Seacock

Found the issue. I used an auger and that did not work. Metal coat hanger through the hose and it fits through the seacock. Twisted the coat hanger around a bit and up came all kinds of nasty stuff.... along with a LOT more water flow. Both ACs are now getting enough water and both are working.

I just struggled with a similar issue with my head intake. After breaking things loose with a coat hanger, I connected a garden hose to the hose and back flushed. When I took the hose off, yet more gunk flowed out.

Re: Seacock

I recently had to replace the engine water intake seacock and in replumbing it I skipped the outside strainer fitting since I have found that those strainers very quickly become clogged with barnacles, etc. With a regular through hull I can dive down with a screwdriver and clean the thing out, or I could even just fit a straight piece of hose on the inside that extends above the waterline and then use a long dowel or other tool to clean out the fitting. I have a big strainer on the inside to prevent crud from reaching the engine, and I can clean that strainer easily.

To minimize the guessing game here -
1. Is the strainer clear and unclogged?
2. Is it an actual seacock (not a gate valve) and are you sure the ball valve opens completely?
