Round sliding shower?

Hi Guys and Gals,

I went up to the boat show">Annapolis boat show this year, and wandered through a number of yachts that had round shower pans with either glass or plexi-glass round sliding shower doors.

Morris had a 48 footer with one that stood out in my mind...

Have any of you had experience with these, or a source/brand of manufacture for them?

Thanks,

Zach

Round sliding shower?

Big problem securing in big seas. Glass breaks.

Sent from an undisclosed location on the high seas or from the lounge chair by the pool, you decide.

I have one in my RV 5th wheel. Except it swings open. It hasn't broke yet even hitting big bumps at 60 mph.

Re: Round sliding shower?

Thanks for the replies guys...

I got in touch with Morris and theirs is a one off custom, made of acrylic.

I'm going to do a bit more hunting around.

I've built two custom fiberglass showers built in place and sprayed awlgrip inside them, so seeing these acrylic versions with a track top and bottom make a lot of sense to me.

Re: Round sliding shower?

The problem is that while a house is usually pretty stable and an RV moves up and down, a boat moves on 3 axes. These shower doors are not built for it. If you made some bracket to hold the door stationary during all those movements, that would be another story, but the rollers and fasteners as delivered will not take the strain.

Re: Round sliding shower?

I saw that Morris at Annapolis. It was eye-opening. Something sticks in the back of my mind that another manufacturer has a simlar shower, but I cannot think of the name. Anyway, not all of that shower was clear--2/3 or so was typical plastic liner and the rotating clear section was acrylic. Most of its use will come when the boat is in port or underway in gentle conditions. Not many use the shower in gale-force conditions. My boat has a rectangular shower stall with an acrylic door, but once the heel exceeds 15 degrees, the drainage will come over the sump grate and flood the rest of the head. I suppose I could run the sump pump while showering, but I have not tried it under such conditions.

Re: Round sliding shower?

HI This may seem primitive but after 42 years have decided 1) electric toilets aren't worth the trouble 2) a shower that works as you sit on the head also cleans up all the piss that missed the pot and it's a great easy way to keep the head NOT smelling like a gas station toilet. I yearned for a real tiled shower, upkeep not worth it and dangerous too. Back to sitting on the johh, our latest boat has big wooden handholds opposite the john. Totally cool and practical if you have ever showered underway. Love shower curtains, you throw them away when they get gross and start with a new one. I hate the thought of what those nice fancy curved shower doors are going to be like to maintain. Unless you have a cleaning service. Simple pictures are best on a boat.

The round sliding shower door may be fine and look cool in your condo. But it has no place whatsoever on a seagoing yacht.

19,
Don't you think anyone buying that boat has a cleaning service?
That shower might get a few wives to go along with the purchase.

Yes!!! So basic and responsible. Thanks for describing it so succinctly.

Yeah boy... you may have wrinkled someone's blue blazer with that comment about the round shower door being "fancy".
