Rewire Rule Automatic Bilge Pump

My Rule-Mate RM1100A automatic bilge pump no longer works automatically but can still be manually operated. How do I rewire this automatic pump to work with a separate float switch in the future.

You could leave the panel switch selected to ‘Manual”, and wire the new float switch, in series with the [Brown /w White Stripe] manual wire; but, you'd lose the ability to test the pump, with the panel switch.
You could still test, by manually lifting the new float.

I understand being thrifty but this unit is at 50% failure. Do you really want to test your luck?
I say this after replacing a failed switch 1 month after replacing the pump it was attached to.

Another question: If I use a fused panel switch do I still need to add a fuse within the stipulated distance from the pump?

Sounds like you just need to replace the float switch with a new float switch - we carry several spares just for that purpose. Use the existing wiring (and the instructions that come with the float switch) to wire the new float switch. Not a difficult job, depending on your access.

you could put a float switch inline on the manual power feed. and leave the manual switch on. but then if the float fails you lose the manual overide.

I would replace the pump with a new pump and external float. and carry a spare of each on the boat. the auto bilge pumps are silly they drain power every few mins when they turn on.
