Re: Raritan PHII leaks EVERYWHERE! Alternatives?

Your pump is worn out and probably been mistreated. My PHll works great and is 28 years old. Nary a leak ever. Just buy a new one. Can't be beat for the price.

Worn out and mistreated. Brand new after 50 pee's. Riiiight.

I have ordered and installed a replacement bowl (no way I was digging the remnants of the failed inlet fitting out of that porcelain with the sealant I used to try to stop that leak). New bowl (no it wasn't free) with pre installed inlet fitting has been installed and - hooray, this one doesn't leak at the back of the bowl. So one less leak (at a cost of $350).

However...the pump shaft is still leaking about a thimble's worth of water with every stroke. Second call to Raritan...they are sending a replacement pump shaft seal. Here's hoping. If that works we will finally have a dry head.

Re: Raritan PHII leaks EVERYWHERE! Alternatives?

When TPI built offshore sailing vessels for the US Navy, the head chosen by the Navy was the Wilcox and Crittenden Skipper solid bronze 4” head. It could pump manatee biscuits all day.
No longer available unless your crew needs this head and you have to rebuild...the next best choice is the Groco.
Plastic heads, kitty litter ( desiccation / not exactly composting) boxes are perfectly compatible with toy plastic ( unsupported ball valves) Forespar products.
You get what you pay for.
Your “biscuit” volume may vary with your diet. Plastic bags do not compost thus the decision is up to you as to your disposal choices.
Let’s not kid anymore about plastic.
Happy transit time.

Had a PHII on the boat for 27 years. Service and lube it a couple times a year. Flush some vinegar occasionally. I have replaced a couple parts, but to be expected considering it is used full time on a world cruising boat.

Re: Raritan PHII leaks EVERYWHERE! Alternatives?

I had PHii heads for a year when I bought the boat. Got the kits to keep the pump valve stems from leaking, then the plastic bases cracked in both heads. Goodbye Raritan.

I had a Groco on one boat, but when the instructions said I had to rebuild it with a coat hanger, I said never again.

You and GoneSail apparently don't realize that you're posting to a thread from 2022.
