PUR 40 membrane

Could you point me in the right direction for a replacement membrane for an early PUR 40, not the factory job but perhaps a generic item?

Re: PUR 40 membrane

yep....no off the shelf membrane for the Pur/Katadyne. Your only choice is the factry laced with gold membrane.

Re: PUR 40 membrane

I do not know the configuration of the PUR/Katadyne unit so this response may not help. I had the same type of cost issue with my Village Marine RO system. VM configured the device for non-standard 38 inch membranes vs the universal 40 inch in order to "lock in" customers to substantially over-priced replacement membranes for which they were the only supplier. My solution was to replace the VM 38 inch housings with standard 40 inch housings. It was less costly to buy replacement housings and standard Filmtec membranes than to buy non-standard VM membranes, plus next time around I already have the universal housings. May work for you, may not!!

Re: PUR 40 membrane

We do about 2-4 proprietary pressure vessel/membrane swap-outs per month: HRO, VM, Pur. And below is a photo of a Pur80 project.

Pur80 Original

Pur80 with new 21" Pressure Vessel to accept off the shelf DOW SW30-2540 Membranes

The problem is that not all proprietary membranes can be swapped out for off the shelf membranes. You have to ballance the high pressure pump's flow rate with the membrane area. The PUR35 and 40 simply have too small a flow for the 21" off the shelf membranes, so that leaves people trapped. However, it's a piece of cake with the larger flow water makers to swap to a 21" or 40" pressure vessel and membrane and be done with the proprietary pricing game.

Re: PUR 40 membrane

Village Marine does (did?) produce replicas of proprietary components such as Sea Recovery commercial pre-filters,membranes.
They did not advertise for them.
You may contact them directly to find out.
It is not a patent breach since these products are not protected for long.
I saw some of these Pur membranes on PS-40 we had in our workshop for repair.
