Propane Gas Line Straight-Thru Fitting

I am re-installing my LPG gas line through my deck as the previous owner just used some sealant which started leaking. I have searched online to find a deck fitting for gas lines, but have not found anything. Except the Trident straight thru fitting which only works if you deck is 1/2" thick.Unfortunately mine is almost 1' thick. Does anyone know of or used a method which works, It will be much appreciated. Thanks

Can you relieve an area below deck to 1/2" ? As in, cut a 1/2" deep hole (not all the way through) that's larger than the fitting?

Re: Propane Gas Line Straight-Thru Fitting

if it is a rubber or flexible hose you could do a gooseneck deck fitting.

Get a thru-deck cable gland, you can get them for up to 1 1/14 inch diameter for the pass-thru, such as this one from Defender.

Thanks for the different ideas... the goose neck might be the way to go.

I'll second the cable gland. It doesn't care what is running through it. It creates a great water tight connection.

Not sure if a goose neck would work. I have one (1.5 inch) for the mast wires and I could not pass the VHF coax thru with the fitting, the radius must be small to be efficient. I had to cut, pass it thru then reinstall the connector. For a propane line you would need a very large one that would accomodate the crimped end.

Re: Propane Gas Line Straight-Thru Fitting

I would not have one through the deck. Instead run the gas line to a flared fitting to the proper plug-in fitting passing through a sealing gasket in the side of the wheelhouse or stern locker, where plug-in connections can be made to an approved fitting for quick connection of the leads to the bottles themselves, which I stored in deck lockers.

May want to check around...I know in the USA that propane runs have to be continuous from regulator to appliance.

Research thru wall propane fittings.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/PRO-FLEX-Te...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

Generally these are available to plumb in propane into a building, thru brick or stick built homes.
For hard tube lines.
There is also ones for flexlines.

Re: Propane Gas Line Straight-Thru Fitting

+1 on installing an uncut line. And all appliances have to have their own home run line to the gas locker. The locker can have a distro manifold, but nowhere else. Seems like a PITA to me, but it will matter for your insurance if there is ever a claim for a fire.

Re: Propane Gas Line Straight-Thru Fitting

Thanks for posting the ABYC Codes for installing LPG systems. I plan to replace a defunct diesel wall heater with a Dickinson Newport P9000 propane heater and would like to T off the existing gas line to the cooker, but ABYC says No. Now I am thinking about using copper tube for the 40' + run from the cockpit locker to the heater instead of a 50' flex tube. "How hard can it be?"

Two things:

1) You will find propane much less efficient than a diesel heater. If you use it a lot you will need to carry extra tanks.

2) Flexible hose will last much longer that copper and will be easier to install. You can have hoses made up to any length at many propane equipment suppliers.

Re: Propane Gas Line Straight-Thru Fitting

Good points. Being located in the SF Bay we won't use the heater a lot, but I like to think ahead to a future owner who might need more heat. I would stick with diesel, but have heard many cases of sooting up and smelling.
As to tube vs. copper I'll look for the right supplier. Would be more comfortable working with tube for sure. Want to keep it as easy as possible.
