propane connection

I'm just converting our stove from non-pressurized alchohol to propane. I bought the solenoid/regulator/switch from West Marine. (why yes it was expensive.) I was going to hire an electrician for the wiring, but the switch/solenoid came with a set of instructions that seemed so easy I decided to do all the work myself. Likewise gasfitter. Screwing a compression fitting on each end of a hose just doesn't seem to warrant the $200 to have a gasfitter down to the boat. I built a locker, but the question I have is regarding the wiring to the solenoid. Should the connections be in or outside the locker? Outside makes the most sense, since the connections would be isolated from any escaping LPG. Also, the instructions say to add a 1 amp inline fuse, but wouldn't it make more sense to run a circuit on the breaker box? Assuming I have room on the box. Otherwise, I can just run the switch wiring to the + and - terminals on the breaker box, and run the inline fuse on the hot wire. Am I on the right track?
BTW, I have a great non-pressurized alchohol stove/oven, gimbaled, and in excellent working order, free to a Vancouver-area sailor who has a case of that well known Hawaiian disorder known as "Lacka-Moola."
