We've been using a Waco for about 5 years now with no trouble.

No experience with the Edgestar but, my ten year old Engel has been plugging along nicely.

Re: portable 12volt fridges

We have a Weaco CF18 that is now 7 years old. It has been dumped on more beaches and travelled further in soggy dinghies than I care to think about. I am constantly surprised it is still running.

Only down side to them is the cost is the same as a full size domestic fridge.

Re: portable 12volt fridges

I used Waeco and it did good job. Except it cycled in a wild and confusing way understandable only to a German engineer. It used more energy than by the book, but we were in hot climate which probably explains most of the wild difference.

It was a 45 liter (or thereabouts) unit.

I would buy one for my own boat.

They seem a bit pricey for what they actually are. Maybe there is some other make that sells the same thing for less money.

Re: portable 12volt fridges

My 20-year-old portable is a Peltier effect, which means it doesn't make ice and it's not great in very hot climates but it is silent, low draw, and seemingly indestructible. It came with a transformer that allows it to be used on 110V when any is available. It holds a case of beer or a couple of boxes of wine.

I'm using a Mobicool fridge. It's working pretty well but I'just found some rust spots that I consider premature.
