polypropylene vs polyethylene holding tank

I'm getting a holding tank custom made (needed a custom shape), and am requesting quotes for my specs. Several responses are for construction of polypropylene vs polyethylene. Anyone have any experience with both types and can give the pros vs cons of each? Is one of them the clear superior construction material for longevity, toughness, and odor permeability?

Re: polypropylene vs polyethylene holding tank

Both PP and PE are good for water, Holding, etc. Both offer very high chemical resistance. I think from a holding tank standpoint either would be effective. Note: My experience with PE and PP is in industrial applications, though I do have a PE holding tank.

Re: polypropylene vs polyethylene holding tank

PE is the material of choice for seamless rotomolded water and waste tanks...PP has become the material of choice for welded custom tanks because it's much easier to cut and weld. I used to know of several companies who made PE welded tanks...don't know of a one today (but that doesn't mean there aren't left, only that I don't know any). Wall thickness--at least 3/8"--is very important...then, like anything else, it's the skill of the person making the tank that matters.
