Re: Plumbing City Water into Boat's Fresh Water System

There seems to be a lot of fear of sinking your boat at the dock with a garden hose. There is little if any danger of sinking the boat if you just remember to shut off the faucet each time you leave the boat. If you leave the boat hooked to the water and go away for a week, you're asking for trouble. Even then your bilge pumps might keep you afloat long enough to discover the problem.

And if you forget? The question is still why take the chance for such a small convenience. Chuck

A ½" garden hose, at 40 psi, is capable of delivering about 1500 GPH of water, continuously.
Alternatively, a 5/8" hose could deliver about 2700 GPH.

hard to find nowadays... but worth looking for or jury rigging were the mechanical garden water shutoffs that you dialed in the number of gallons to be allowed. That way you could dial in a couple hundred gallons (more than your tanks and no dragging hoses) which would be enough for a couple days of shoreside use but not enough to sink your boat if a problem developed.

In the gardening department you will also find TIMERS that will let water flow at timed intervals and they have an OFF position too.
