PAR 36950-1000 no longer creates pressure
Hello CF,
I have an old PAR model 36950-1000. 12V, 3GPM, automatic multifixture, type IV, pump.
The pump suddenly stopped creating pressure, and I'm not sure what the problem is, I haven't taken it apart yet. I did notice that the pump motor was running warm (don't know if that's normal). It may have sounded funny before that happened (i wasn't paying very close attention to the sound, but registered the noise stopped being uniform, but somehow cycling in pitch/intensity).
When I google these, I can only find the 36950-2000 model for sale. Does anyone to know if this is the same pump?
So I'm deliberating whether to rebuild (with what kit?) or replace (with which pump).
I also have a manual pump t-d off before the Jabsco intake, and that is pumping fine, so I doubt the lines are clogged. I don't have an accumulation tank (do I even want one? i sometimes find leaks at the hose clamps, so i probably don't want to have it pressurized all the time.), so the system is pretty simple (i do have a hot water tank though).
Thank you!
Anton

That pump is pretty robust. You may simply have a warn/leaking non-return valve in the pump body which are not too difficult to replace.

Took it apart. Looks like it does create pressure after all, but leaking from under the bottom plate. What they call the vibration dampener seems to be warped now: the suction side chamber looks kind of sucked in, but the other chamber looks healthy, see photos. Wonder if replacing that is all that's needed...

Antoha--Replace the vibration damper, the valves and the diaphragm and you'll have an essentially new pump. The parts are not particularly expensive (Google Depco Pump for parts) and the effort not great. You might also find that changing from a 40psi to 20psi pressure switch eliminates a lot of problems with that pump and there really is no good reason to put your accumulator and connections under a 40psi load when 20 is plenty on the boat. BTDT got the T-shirt.
FWIW...

Yes replace the dampener. It acts as the gasket for the bottom plate. Since it leaks water there it might also be letting air in which would reduce the pumping ability.
Before you do that, look for cracks in the black plastic housing, it's fairly brittle.
Be careful tightening the screws holding the bottom plate, that's what usually cracks them.
Like HyLyte says, I'd just put a repair kit in it, the valves don't last forever and you've already got it apart.

Thank you again! Will do. No cracks from what I can tell. I used the shortest wrench I could find to make sure I don't torque it too much.

Thank you again! Rebuilt, no longer leaking, holds pressure - what more can one ask for.
Added a strainer while at it, one less thing to worry about.
(Hopefully this thread may be useful for those in a similar situation.)

Good Job. Pull through a strainer, push through a filter. Adding a Pentek filter with an activated charcoal element will much improve the quality of your water as will passing your shore-side water through a filter canister before running it into your tank(s) and adding a dose of AquaBon to each tank.

Re: PAR 36950-1000 no longer creates pressure
Thank you! I was thinking about a filter, but it's just so tight there that i'd be hard pressed to find a serviceable location (after all, I'd need to get to that filter at least twice a year). And this is under sink, next to engine, over seacocks, and next to a raw water strainer - all all of these must be unobstructed...

Nice job on the rebuild. What kit did you use ? I’m having the same problem .
Thanks
