Re: Painsless head replacement & lubrication. Raritan.

Along with this list for steps to replace an old Raritan PH Head
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post2158022

I promised some photographs.
1. After pumping in 4 bowls of fresh water dry, close raw water valve.
2. Disconnect 4 bolts on the base of the cylinder -> 1/2 cup brown water.
3. Remove base of toilet completely, taking care not to spill any water.
4. Put a 2 qt pan under the cylinder & pump and slowly loosen the joker valve.
5. Letting brown water into the pan < less than 1/2 full of water.
6. You're home free now to install the new head.

PS: We like the new Raritan Superflush. Lower bowl more comfortable, larger cylinder is good and pumping action is good. Valves are working nicely and the cylinder valve joker works! I was considering finding a better toilet made with something other than plastic due to bending of plastic at joints over the 23 years, but this toilet appears to be fine.

I know this is an old post but a thought... When you remove the flange to replace the old joker valve, couldn't you just shoot the lube through that opening back into the pump housing instead of pulling it up off the base? You'll have it open anyway.

An interesting suggestion, but won't work nearly as well as squirting into the bottom of the pump for a couple of reasons: Thick silicone grease in a tube--SuperLube is the brand Raritan recommends-- is the only thing to use and squeezing the tube doesn't "shoot" it far enough to make it through the discharge fitting and into the pump. Even less likely if the discharge is a 90. You only need about a tablespoon of it, btw.

And btw..there is no flange separate from the joker valve...it's ON the joker valve and seals the discharge fitting connection to the pump body.

I could easily put a long tip on the superlube tube and shove it in there and grease the back wall with the superlube. Sort of like the tips you see for epoxy, glue, or icing. Something long. Idk, just a thought as I changed the joker valve today and removed the pump to lube it. After pulling the pump housing and joker valve off at the same time, I realized it was all the same "space".
