Oxyclean in your Holding Tank

I have not used oxyclean in a holding tank but we do use it in brewing. I suggest combining it half and half with TSP. It will work much better. It works very well at getting calcified deposits from the brew water off I assume it would do the same thing for holding systems. Its also great for removing smells so I assume it would work pretty well for holding tanks.

Normally, it is followed up by a good acid wash but the stuff we use in brewing is no good for delicate gaskets. We have special ones used in industry that easily resist harsh chemicals, don't pick up smells, or absorb colors.

BTW - don't close up the tank - the oxyclean will build pressure.

Use it how? Have you emptied the tank and now want to clean it out? Fine, oxyclean might be useful.

If you're talking about something that you put into it on a regular basis, though, bad idea. You don't want to kill the bacteria that are in the holding tank. At least, not all of them. It is the aerobic bacteria that prevent odors.

Do some homework with forum search features. Adding a sterilizing agent to a holding tank is a very bad idea that is bad for odor control and bad for the eqipment (there are soft parts in hoses and pumps that do not do so well with oxidants--they will not fail immidieatly, but their useful life is shortened).

Both head vendors and 3rd parties have done studies that conclude that bacterial treatments and nutriants are far more effective and less troublesome.
