Re: Ogo (composting) toilet - any users?

It still astounds me what these cost. That’s a LOT of money for a 5 gallon bucket and pee jug.

If you are handy with composites, you can make something as nice in a day or two.

Re: Ogo (composting) toilet - any users?

It's good to see another company getting into the market - hopefully this means composting/dessicating heads are becoming more common. I switched to a Nature's Head four+ years ago, and I'm still a very happy customer. And I haven't had to change any joker valves in that time.

I have learned over the years that the cheapest and most reliable waste disposal appliance is the time-honored disposal unit, the "seau et corde".

Looks like a nice improvement on the churner side (although I still want manual ). The aesthetics are appealing, and the size would make it easier to fit into smaller boats. Definitely a good addition to the composting head options out there.
This is my main concern as well tbh, the huge amount of time (months!) between having to worry about the solids bin on the NH was sooooo nice. Although it looks a lot easier to deal with on this one, it pulls out of the front and you don't have to detach the lid.

I actually may end up getting this, I'm going to think about it for a few weeks

If you'd seen my fibre-glassing you wouldn't say that. I'm fine at repairing something like a hole that is then sanded flat, but creating a structure from scratch that is nice looking? Isn't going to happen. Agreed on the cost, but hopefully as they become less niche items the cost will go down as more people enter the market

Won't work for a lot of the places I sail in, and especially for living aboard at a marina in the winter months (they check)

It would be great to get your real-world experience if you go with this. Especially so since you've already got experience with Nature's Head.

EPA document 832-F-99-066 Simplified version of the issues.
Well we have been told to start a new thread. Not going to do that.
We believe the safety of any new device is well within the subject.
With regard to the legal aspects of disposal and potential changes in regulations ?
We don’t wish to see fellow sailors arrested for illegally depositing human wastes in some jurisdiction with a vague rule still somewhere on the books.
We touch on the subject of pathogens and illnesses to encourage anyone owning or contemplating buying these devices in the hope they will research just how dangerous human waste can be and further, to understand the thermal conditions required to inactivate pathogens.
This device has a smaller total volume and thus is more sensitive to failure.
We post because we have seen the recent results of ignoring science and promoting misinformation with regard to pathogens and public health.
Please don’t tell posters to shut up because you don’t agree with them.
It’s very rude.

Thanks for sharing your concerns, but not to be rude... can we now get back to the actual purpose of this thread.

What I'd love to see is a head-to-head () comparison between this new one, and C-Head. Seems to me C-head is the most similar to Ogo given their holding tank size (although not their cost).

Captain Mark
I think the justification for admonishing your post was that it was off-topic and distracting. Re-read the OP and it should be obvious he was asking about real life experience, not an armchair review of waste management. There are people who are comfortable with the technology and enjoy discussion of new products. Your post did nothing to add and sought to derail.

I keep looking for a compost head to fit a certain space in my camper van. The Oge is close, but a bit tall.

So Manateeman, I did a quick Google search. Two facts about manatees stood out

They poop up to 150 lbs of excrement each day.

Relative to their size, they have the smallest brain of any mammal in the world.

I asked you to please open your own thread, nothing to do with shut up. The thousands of important composting shades deserve focused attention.

Do not hijack other threads!

. I hope someone can provide this later. I would be especially interested how strong it is built (e.g. attachment, sitting on the cover, etc.).

For my space challenged situation the C-Head was in favorite position until now. But I fear he has been knocked out by Mr. Ogo

Re: Ogo (composting) toilet - any users?

The original poster stated clearly that he would be interested in “ thoughts” about the device.
So we should just shut up if our thoughts do not agree with your thoughts.
And let’s pick and choose disparaging remarks about manatees while we avoid a discussion on the dangers of inadequate treatment and the disposal of human waste and the pathogens within.
The manatee crew is thoroughly amused by such childish insults

The point, Capt M, is that your posts add nothing to the discussion of a new model of composting head, which is what the OP requested. Instead, you are referring to a perceived health issue that affects all composting heads. That is why you should start a new thread about your topic.

Re: Ogo (composting) toilet - any users?

Thank you Peter, this compocloset was new to me.

Here is yet another small model: biotoi.de. Unfortunately only in german language, the videos (https://www.biotoi.de/youtube/) might give an idea and/or the specs (https://www.biotoi.de/daten-fakten/technik-daten/).

The H x W x D measurement is 388 x 332 x 390 mm (15.3 x 13.1 x 15.3 in).
Weight 6.5 kg (14.3 pound), Price in Germany 1'250 €

Compo Closet did a crowd funding campaign and raised $300k USD for initial orders that were supposed to deliver last October. They are now forecast this April however they appear to still be heavily in the prototype mode and making design changes.

Bottom line is this head is not currently available though you can pre order for June delivery. You would be putting a lot of faith in the founder to actually deliver. This would work well for me but after watching a few of the videos, I'll wait until general availability production.

Good thread. Thanks.

Peter
