New Pump Getting Air ?

I guys,

It's seems I'm not having a lot of luck. Put a new pump and all new hose lines in for my kitchent sink. It is sucking heaps of air out of the tank though and I can't figure out why! I can actually see the air coming out of the tank into the hose. It is all new and sealed well and the tank is full. Has anyone experienced this before? The only thing I can think is the clamp that goes into the tank doesn't have a good enough seal although it's as tight as I can get it

Re: New pump getting air?

Is your hose drawing from the top of the tank or bottom? There could be a problem if there is an internal pick up line with the connection at the top of the tank being cracked.

Hmmm I wouldn't know. Just bought the yacht a few weeks back. The position of it is impossible to see also. Might just be better off putting in a new pickup in a better spot!

Re: New Pump Getting Air ?

Hum. Assuming the pickup connection is at the top of the tank, then maybe remove the hose from the fitting and cut an inch off the hose. Add some water to the hose as the pump could be air bound. Not Likely with a positive displacement pump but worth a check.

Also check the hose connection at the pump suction and that the pump is not too far above the tank (or the tank bottom), Most have a limit of suction lift of 5 feet or so. Also that the suction hose is pretty straight and not kinked, no high loops. reinstall the hose and tighten the hose clamp with a wrench, but not too much...

Open a faucet and turn the pump on to get the air out of the system. When the air is gone, close the faucet..
