Morgan 38 plumbing problem

Folks,

I just bought a '93 CC. Whenever I fill the water tanks and turn on the pump, water pumps back over the side through the female fitting for my dock side hose. I cannot find a valve anywhere that will allow me to turn this off.

Additionally, no water gets to the faucet on the transom. Again, I can't find a valve.

Does anyone know anything about these things?

Ed

Ed, with an old boat sometimes you need to do some exploring to find out what the PO left you. They might have replaced or rewired the pressure pump--and reversed the polarity or installed the pump backwards. Or there may be some type of check valve that has failed.

Best bet is to follow the lines from the tanks, sketch out what you've got, and at some point the error will become apparent. At the same time you'll have inspected the whole system--which is essential is you want to rely on it. One bad clamp, one chafed hose, and you could wind up with all the fresh wate rin the bilge one day.

Ed, Those valves are designed to only allow water one way so the valve has failed and needs to be replaced. You can find them at any marine supply store.

Thanks to both of you. Does anyone know specifically where the darn valves are? The owners manual diagram is weak, and I've darn near disassembled the boat looking for them. I'm going back tomorrow with crowbar in hand!!
