Membrane housing for a Spectra Watermaker

I have a Spectra watermaker with three membrane housings for 2 1/2' x 21' membranes. The old housing is now leaking through the end fitting and I am considering buying new ones. The firm Wateranywhere says that I need some expensive vessel which can stand 1000psi. According to my reading Spectra Ventura produces only 80 psi. I can buy new housings rated for 200 psi (fiber glass) or 300 psi (steel).
Does anybody have experience with this?

Watermakers operate at about 900 psi at the membrane. You need high test vessels.

The commonality between marine water makers is bringing sea water up to between 800-900PSI, how they do it meaning the type of Hp pump, is what makes them different, energy recovery spectra 12v pump or brute force energy hog piston pump. Once you get past the Hp pump and some system controls, water makers are basically low pressure and high pressure plumbing projects. So you can easily interchange a Spectra Pressure Vessel with say one of ours shown in the photo below. I'm honestly now sure what Spectra charges for their pressure vessels, but we sell the pressure vessels for the standard Dow SW30-2521 membrane (which is what Spectra uses also) for $375. All inlet and outlet ports are 1/4" female NPT fittings...in stock...ready to ship.

Several things. First you are not understanding the pressures your Spectra is creating or the parts creating it. The Spectra Ventura does create around 750-800psi inside the membrane vessel. All salt water RO systems do. The 80psi you are referencing in your system is the feed pump pressure not the membrane vessels pressure. A membrane vessel rated for 200-300psi is for a fresh water RO system and can not take the pressures created in a salt water RO systems. Also, if this is a Ventura 150 or 200T there is only one 21"membrane vessel not three. Secondly, before you start throwing the baby out with the bath water, it would be far cheaper to repair your older 21" membrane vessel than replacing it. Spectra membrane vessels are the easiest vessels made to work on and repair. If you are leaking somewhere from the end cap or fitting it's less than a $100 to fix. I would suggest that you contact me first before making any descision on what to do or how to repair your Spectra watermaker. Because, with all due respect, your original post tells me you do not fully understand your system or it's components. A few minutes on the phone with me costs you nothing.
