Marco gear pumps UP3/E vs UP6/E

Having weighed up the advice in previous threads, I am looking at replacing my existing water pumps with the Marco electronic variable speed pump (and doing the necessary preventative maintenance), either the UP3/E (15l/min) or UP6/E (26 l/min). There are generally two of us aboard, joined occasionally by two guests, so it is rare for more than one shower plus one head or kitchen faucet or washing machine to be running at the same time. The UP6/E is more expensive but I have found some good pricing for it, so want to base my decision purely on functionality. The UP3/E is a closer match to the flow rate of my existing Jabsco pump, on paper. For anyone with the UP6/E, do you find disadvantages to the higher flow rate? For those with the UP3/E, are you happy with your flow rate? I gather that neither pump needs an accumulator tank but some people choose to install one - have you found it useful?
Thanks!

Re: Marco gear pumps UP3/E vs UP6/E

Two of us sail a 52 foot boat with the UPE2 and are perfectly happy with the flow rate.

Other than the higher cost and more water down the drain, there is no disadvantage to the higher flow rate. If you have a watermaker and the power to run it, you might not care about spilling a bit more water.

They are nice pumps. If you take the effort to change the shaft seal BEFORE it leaks into the motor they will last a very long time.

Thanks SailingHarmonie. Yes, I've read that it is important to pro-actively change the shaft seal!!

So here’s how to have the best of both worlds: buy the 3/E plus a second 3/E which is the spare but install it in parallel. For the rare occasion that you need more volume than one can deliver, you simply run both simultaneously

I have the 3/E plus an older different pump because it’s still surviving but the 3/E alone has enough capacity for us. It is small but fierce

Thanks Jedi. Will require some plumbing alterations but as you say, would give me the best of both worlds...
