Re: Making My Own "Composting" Head

First wind, "whole" men... Too much caffeine today? It is so easy to cast dispersions on someone's post. My post is not sterotyping or gender bashing. In a seaway I would be peeing over the side. In harbor I don't like to sit and pee. Nothing manly or girly about it. I can't remember ever going pee and in the middle of that having to suddenly go poo.

My toilet will be plumbed so that if I am sitting and poo I can also pee. If I just want to pee I will stand. Hope u don't take offense if I want to do it however I want.

Did u know many women refuse to sit on toilets whatsoever ? They will squat and not touch their fannies to the surface or they will stand on the toilet seat and then squat. Perhaps u might want to talk to them also about how gender and early training relates to their "wholeness" also.

Brent Swain's book "Origami Boat Building" has a simple design.

Re: Making My Own "Composting" Head

Having owned a commercial composting head, if I was ever to make my own, I'd spend the money to buy a professionally fabricated seat that has an integrated urine separating system. I've also seen people use a funnel attached to the front of a bucket properly placed to catch the urine and keep it separate.

Keeping the water out is key to keep it composting (yes it is composting just that you might dump before composting is complete).

I would consider a light solid color. Do you really want to guess if solid matter is smeared on the side or if it really got cleaned up?

Re: Making My Own "Composting" Head

This is a little late, but have any of you considered a "sawdust toilet"? It is a simpler, smaller unit that is usually home built using 5 gallon contractor's buckets. The link to investigate this is as follows: The Humanure Handbook - Basic instructions for making compost from humanure..

I have one as my back up toilet and it works very well.
