Thanks for checking. I found the Nigel Calder book at the thrift store listed above and purchased it. Should it ever arrive, (I am spoiled by Amazon), I will have it as a reference. I am a little frustrated that I can't find a copy of the Richard Kollmann book since everyone raves about it. I have not given up hope, but am a little...

Nonetheless, I am grateful for all of the quick replies and alternative suggestions...

The reason that these books are going extinct is that they aren’t needed anymore. This in turn means that you are probably in a mindset to keep using old, some even would say obsolete technology.

The new fridge/freezer systems have become so good that the old boxes aren’t used anymore. One can get nice stainless steel drawer style marine units or use the portable boxes, which is what I opted for and using three SnoMaster boxes, all stainless steel, magnetic seals, trouble free compressors etc. are a dream compared to the ice boxes with Frigoboat compressors I had before.

I am willing to have it copied and offer it back to the other members of this forum for what ever costs to reproduce either as a hardcopy or a digital copy?
I have an excellent condition (I did read it when I bought it) copy of his "Do-it-yourself Boat Refrigeration". It's the 2000 print, I bought it in 2009-2010 time frame after getting jacked $250 to recharge my AB refrigerator. Got my EPA freon license, a set of refrigerant gauges/hoses, and the book to learn how to maintain it myself. 201 pages, great resource book.

Message me an offer, I'm willing to sell it.

Power systems have also changed a lot, so we have a lot more flexibility in what kind of systems are reasonable to use, especially on boats that have AC power available 24/7.

Beat me to it.
I read Mr. Kollmann's book shortly after it was published and also met Mr. Calder when he came to the outfit I was working for while he was gathering info for his book, (he went to several companies to obtain info, and the book was basically a compilation of what he gathered).
Yes, back in those days if you wanted a powerful system at reasonable cost, or to fit some weird shaped box you pretty much had to build your own.
I'm not sure there are very many boat owners today who wish to bend-up 50>100' of 1/2" tubing and build their own cold-plate(s).
Back then you could easily get "Dole" cold plates in a wide variety of sizes, they were the basis for the Adler-Barbour and Grunert systems, this is years before Danfoss introduced the 12V condensing unit we all take for granted now.
Grant you though, both books have useful info.

Re: Looking for the Richard Kollmann's reefer book

I have 2 of Richard’s manuals on refrigerator repairs in xlnt condition. But I won’t be home until December 11 to find them.
I will check how many pages so you can see what kind of project your idea for copying might be.
Many diagrams in color, etc
Please PM me and I will contact with specifics

I have the book, it's on my boat, the boat is in Hiva Oa, Marquesas, FPN; if you still need it, pm me, but I won't be there until the end of January.

Several of the other members loaned/sold me copies, so I am all set! Thanks!
