Lavac Head, Hendersen pump - Adding Joker Valve/s

I have a Lavac head and Hendersen pump
Occasionally one / both valves will block open and pump will not work until "persuaded". Last time I had to block outlet underwater with my hand whilst swimming to get pump to clear.

I'm thinking a second one way joker type valve inline before and also after pump, would be a secondary backup valve.
This way, any material temporarily holding a valve open, would not impact pump operation. There is less chance of 2 valves in series be blocked open.

Has anyone tried adding valves inline?

I would not do it. You already have enough problems with two valves adding another one will just increase the possible points of blockage.

My experience with the Lavac was that they started to block when there was a build up on the valves preventing them from fully opening.

I agree with Raymond...replace, don't add nor try to clean either. Joker valves stretch with use...the slit in a worn one won't ever seal again.

Re: Lavac Head, Hendersen pump - Adding Joker Valve/s

I never had a problem with the joker (output) valve not working. I had constant problems with the input (flapper) valve staying open. I finally realized that if I didn’t try to pump the bowl dry, that the water left between the bowl and the pump kept the flapper pulled against the seat. Never had a problem since.
