Katadyn PUR 80 membrane replacement?
I have got an old used katadyn powersurvivor 80 watermaker. The cost of replacement of katadyn RO membranes is really high. Does anybody know which housing and membrane manufactured by DOW sold by wateranywhere.com could be used instead the original?
nce http://www.wateranywhere.com/index.php?cPath=22_35
Thanks, Kristof

The old membrane may have a number on it. You could match the rating with a standard membrane and new housing.

CF member Tellie ( J.T. @ Halden Marine Service) would be another excellent source.

Re: Katadyn PUR 80 membrane replacement?
Because Katadyn watermakers use single piston pumps they are only making water half the time so you need a membrane rated at roughly twice the GPD capacity or about 160 gpd. My Katadyn 160 uses a 2.5 x 21 inch membrane rated at 300 gpd. 2.5 x 14 inch membranes are rated at 150 gpd so should work. These membranes and pressure vessels are available from a number of sources, including AmericanRO.com and wateranywhere.com. I did not see 14 inch membranes on CruiseRO's site, though he may be able to help you. It is important to match the flow rate to the membrane size so a 21 inch membrane is too big for your pump so don't be tempted to try one.

Re: Katadyn PUR 80 membrane replacement?
I have a old Pur 80 with 2 x 14 inch membranes , can I fit a 40 inch pressure vessel or is the single piston pump to small for the job ?

You can get a 14" 2.5" housing and membrane.
I have seen this done with 80s but at one time bought a 160 since it used a stock membrane

A 40 inch membrane is way too big for the pump. Your water quality will be poor and your output low if you put a 40" membrane on that pump. An SW30-2514 is a good match for the pump if you need to replace the Katadyn membranes. Your output will be about the same as with the stock membranes.

I don't know of any stock membrane small enough to work on a pur 35. Sorry

as to the membrane on a 160e. once the clips are removed do you just press the membrane out of the high pressure tube?
Thanks
Greg

Yes, though gentle persuasion with a rubber mallet sometimes help get them started. Once the adhesion is broken push the end in just far enough to push the other end out where you can grab it. Do not try to push the end all the way through the tube. Once the membrane is out you can use a piece of PVC pipe to push the other end back out so that you can service the seals.
