Katadyn 40e odd problem

Hi

we have a katadyn 40e, on our boat that we run every day for at least a couple of hours.

We were managing ppm 250-300 which for the med is great, no problems.

Recently though we cannot get below 500 whilst underway, but as soon as we anchor the numbers go back down to 250-300 !!?

Anyone else experience this?

I wonder if a faulty seal is letting seawater into freshwater side, due to movement whilst sailing/motoring., it used to be fine moving or anchoring. It is 250 hours since new membrane and seals.

Any idea please?

Charlie.

Possible air ingress while underway, it's common. Yours is a hydraulic pumping system. Air in the system will compress and lower operating pressure within the pump and membrane resulting in higher PPMs

Hi tellie

Thanks for that, do you think it could be a leak from internal seals? Or maybe fittings leading to the watermaker?

Hard to see how the internal seals could work when the boat is still as opposed to moving?

I will go round the system and tighten up the hose clamps etc.

I wonder if cavitation could be a culprit?

Charlie.
