Just so you know.
This thread has saved me years of trouble. Every time I start to think I really need to buy a boat, I just come on here and read about broken toilets until the feeling passes. Thanks.

Re: Just so you know.
I'm glad you feel this way, because honestly if everyone cruised dinghy docks would be way more crowded than they allready are. Anchorages would be a disaster and all the good quiet spots would be packed. Its refreshing to hear from people stuck in the rat race, who realize its hard work, and dont have what it takes. One less guy to to drag down on me with bad anchoring advice they got on the internet. Thanks for stayin put.

Re: Just so you know.
All good cruisers know, if it breaks you fix it, if you cant fix it, buy a new one, if you cant afford a new one...go with out. Cruising, its that simple.

If a broken toilet scares you off, you probably were not cut out to be a sailor anyway.
No hard feelings, jus sayin

Finally, a comment from someone with sound reason and excellent judgment.
Why didn't you tell me a long time ago?

Pilot,
That's exactly what I do too. This forum is the perfect laxative.
I noticed under "boat" on your avatar you have listed "talk me into it" so I will give it a go. On my Catalina 30 the only toilet for the last 20 years has been a bucket with a nice oak seat. Hasn't broken or clogged once. On the cat we have a Lavac in one hull without a holding tank for use at sea. In the other hull we have a composing head that consists of a bucket, bottle, seat and coconut coir. Both are trouble free. Did I talk you into it?

Re: Just so you know.
dang..if busted heads scare ye off, then i dont know how to splain cruising life to ye-- better off not going out into the deep blue scary ocean...busted heads is one of the smaller problems on board cruising sailboats---LOL

The most reliable head is a bucket!
