Johnson or Whale diaphragm pumps

In the eternal refit project, I need to select one manufacturer for these pumps. I'll need several of the smaller 3/4" pumps for service as a primary bilge pump (backed by a larger crash pump), a shower sump pump and a chain locker sump pump. I want to keep them all the same so as to only need to carry one spare. I also want a larger 1-1/2" version for pumping the holding tank overboard offshore. I'm considering both Whale (gulper 320) and Johnson Viking 16 for the smaller pumps and their larger brothers for the bigger pump. I've read here that most seem happy with the Whale's, but I've also read of problems with gears stripping. The (Swedish) Johnsons seem really well designed, (ball bearings, motor temp cutoffs, nitrile diaphragms, etc.) but I've also read of problems with the valves. Figured I'd ask here to see if anyone has experience and or opinions?
