Could be a failed pressure switch not sensing the pressure, thus keeping the pump running? Or....you have an open discharge line dumping water in the bilge....been there....done that....

Turn the adjustment screw 3/4 turn in either direction. The one with the hex head.

New pump? Did you buy it at a store, can you take it back?

Have you bled all the air from the system?

Re: Jabsco water pump will not shut off

Could just be that it's not priming. Could be the pipes are reversed so it's pumping backwards.
Make sure the water is reaching the pump first.
If there's pressure at the tap the pump is pumping.
If the pressure is massively high turn the pressure down with the screw.
If there's no water from the tap you could try sucking on it to prime the pump.

Careful now...

Re: Jabsco water pump will not shut off

Open some faucets and turn it on. I you get water, close all faucets. If the pump fails to shutoff, the water tank is not empty and there is no upstream blockage (remove at pump to check) you either have a pump issue or a downstream leak. you can rule out the latter if you shut the pump off, wait 20 minute and restart. Open a faucet and if you get some initial air mixed with the water (sputtering flow) you probably have a leak. Return the pump for replacement. Jabsco warantee should be good.

Re: Jabsco water pump will not shut off

Happens to me all the time, at least every time I've run the tank dry. The pump gets an airlock and can't build up full pressure, so it keeps running. On the suggestion of an ex-helicopter pilot, I installed a T-fitting, a valve and a length of hose right at the pump outlet. When you get the airlock, put the end of the hose in a bucket, and activate the valve. You should get a gush of air and water. Close the valve. Repeat as necessary. If its like mine, once you get it going you should be good until the next time you run the tank dry.

I had that same problem. Alas it seems the blonde bimbo that installed the new pump, wired it backwards at first...... Doh.

Wiring so it ran forward fixed it.

It could also be air trapped in the tubing too.

My experience with same issue was air on the intake side. Make sure that connection to pump and your strainer are all tight. A little air gets in there and pump gets in air lock.

Re: Jabsco water pump will not shut off

it common problem, especially for combine units. Water level switch has to be always far above the pump. If not, it would be probably OK in calm water of marina but under sailing condition it would kill the pump running half dry.

Consider: RTFM. It has a troubleshooting guide at the back. These pumpsd are all the same.

Step-by-step.

Good luck.

Re: Jabsco water pump will not shut off

The intake side of the pump may have those stupid quick connect things. You may hear it sucking air and that will stop it turning off.
