jabsco toilet as backup/spare

We have two toilets on board.
We want to use one as a spare.

Now, I’m wondering what the best approach would be. Should we fully install the spare toilet and regularly pump water through it (though this might occasionally be forgotten, which could lead to the rubber seals drying out)?
Or would it be better to keep all the parts on board and only attach the pump housing when we actually need to use the toilet?

How long can you "clench up?"

, sorry, could not help myself.

The real answer is that the seals won't weather much faster wet than dry. Store with fresh water and keep the thru-hull closed to prevent growth. Use it a few times a year. Do NOT winterize with PG antifreeze. This will harden and ruin seals within months. Drain instead, or use EG antifreeze.

It doesn't appear that you need or really even want a second head...so assuming these are both Jabsco manual toilets. I'd keep just the pump as a spare replacement when the one on toilet you're using "goes south"--which it will and swapping out a pump is a LOT easier than rebuilding--and turn the second head into storage or a shower.

That's m $.02 worth...your mileage may vary.
