Is it okay to leave cheap Vodka in water tank?

I have a Jeanneau SO409 with two (2) water tanks... I only use one for the whole season... when I winterize, I put cheap Vodka into both tanks for the winter.

Come Spring... I only de-Winterize the aft tank and I pour fresh water from the marina into it. I don't use the bow tank since I only go out of for a day or two and the stern tank is enough.

Is it okay if I leave the Vodka in it for the whole Summer with 90 degree F or 32 degree C or more outside?

Or, what is the best policy?

Thanks, guys

[edit]
My question is... will it damage the pipes/tank/pump?

Waste of cheap vodka.

Drain the tanks, blow out the lines with an air compressor...

Vodka is for drinking
Water is for flushing toilets

Don't get the two mixed up.

The sugar in the vodka is going to do some awful things to your water system. FLUSH IT OUT.

I believe the potable antifreeze is probably better than vodka which contains propylene glycol that will not dry out rubber seals/lines like alcohol. Would try to drain the vodka out asap to avoid any possible issue w/rubber parts (pumps).

Not a big fan of using compressed air to get water out of lines. From previous experience, if there is a low spot, water can accumulate and freeze potentially cracking/bursting that section. While the potable antifreeze is more expensive, there are no surprises in the spring.

Silly waste of vodka, even if it is the cheap kind. Use actual anti-freeze, which will be both more effective and WAAAY less expensive.

It most probably is OK, especially if you add some more.

It seems silly to worry about it instead of just placing the tank in service and using it. If it the water is going to sit in it a long time (ours used to) just add some extra bleach to it.

Thanks guys. Will flush it out. My biggest worry is that once the water stays there for a long time, it starts to smell.

Also, careful with the bleach if you have aluminum water tanks.

Best solution? Move somewhere that it never gets cold enough to freeze! Snow is evil stuff, ice even more evil unless it is in cube form.

Re: Is it okay to leave cheap Vodka in water tank?

If you are not going to ever use the forward tank, why not drain it and the hoses and just leave them dry? Or if you are using it for ballast, do the reverse and use the forward tank and leave the aft tank empty?

What we use in Canada for all the boat's plumbing - and the water intake etc for the exhaust heat exchanger - Pink Plumbers Antifreeze. Easy to flush-out in the spring due to the color, and won't hurt you if you still have some in your water system. And cheaper than Vodka, unless you male your own in the bath tub.
