Is a door necessary on a freezer bin evaporator?

Going to be installing a horizontal freeze bing evaporator (Compact SP 2351 Medium "O" Evaporator). Is it normal practice to put a door on it and is it normally included? If it is an accessory do some people Make there own or what? Also are these recommended to be mounted horizontal?

Re: Is a door necessary on a freezer bin evaporator?

The medium size evaporator does require a optional 2351 evaporator door if mounted horizontal. Without door horizontal bin is not going to be much of a freezer.

Hopefully this is a well insulated box of less than 5 cu ft if you are to stay in tropical climates like West Indies. The BD35 compressor may be too small for a 38 ft boat and summer time water temperatures may not satisfy the heat disposal by Isotherm's through hull condenser.

4.5 cubic foot. 6 inches foam insulation.

Thanks Richard

What about the vertical versus horizontal mounting

Re: Is a door necessary on a freezer bin evaporator?

We had a little Adler Barbour Fridge/freezer (to make ice cubes). I cut a piece of 1/2" closed cell foam for the top of the evaporator (vertical ice cube trays). It worked a lot better after we put the "door" on.
