Inverter to replace Honda in watermaker

Trying to find which inverter might work with my Honda EU20i powered watermaker. Ihp motor with start/run capacitors. I bought one which I was told 'should work' but doesn't. Anyone doing this? If so, which model of inverter are you using?



The idea is to run the watermaker when under engine and the batteries are topped up rather than getting the suitcase generator out when at anchor.

The motor is 240v. I am not sure what the start up current is but it was the lowest I could find - had to import it from US. It is a Century PD6104AV3. It starts on the Honda no problem. The inverter I bought (Silverline 2000 watt) was supposed to handle up to 3000 watts (I think) for a short period of time, but after having bought it and discovered it wouldn't work I read that it might not work with capacitor based motors.


If I was putting it together again I would use a 3 phase motor and 1 to 3 phase inverter to run it.

Selecting the right pump, motor, and inverter, for a specific application, can be a complex job. Your combination doesn't seem well coordinated.
Your Century PD6104AV3 is an Agricultural Fan Motor.
Your Silverline (#444658?) 2000W Inverter is a Modified sine wave (actually a modified square wave) waveform, with a Peak Power output of 4000 watt for 1 second.

No, but the watermaker works. I have a fan cooling the motor (rather than it being cooled by the cooling fan).



Pure sine is needed are you suggesting?

Anyone thinking of getting a water maker......get the smallest you can find. Run it off of dedicated small solar panel..run int 24/7 and you will always have full tanks and a few 5 gal jugs of nice water to trade with.]]




BUT..,remember...water from a water maker does not contain what ytou require in the was of minerals..drink gator-Ade or take peed-a-lite to keep every think in balance. de W7KFI

A Selectronic 2400 watt inverter/charger will start and run the water maker. I have a 240l/hr water maker and it runs it no problems, had on the boat 4 years. You can get up to 7 years warranty. They are rated for 40ºc. You can custom program the inverter/battery charger. The are made in Melbourne. I think they are 92% efficient though the the load curve

Get a pure sine inverter (that you can return) of the same size and try that. If it’s still not working, jump up in inverter capacity to 3kw.

We don’t know the power consumption (in watts) of your motor, so this is completely a trial and error guessing game.

We know that the load is 1600 watts or less.

I guess you’re ahead of me somehow because I don’t see that wattage in this thread (nor any amps). Just 240V

He said that it runs off the EU20i. A EU20i has a continuous output of 1600 watts.

I thought i read something like 1hp actually lhp but probably intended to be 1hp) which is approximately 750W.

That is just the typical amperage, not the start up.

Yes, I tried to measure the start up amperage but wasn't successful. Boat is in Greece and I am in UK now.
