Weldmount Systems have a variety of mounts that are easily fastened to bare fibreglass.
That would be the lightest method and certainly strong enough.
I even mounted our hot water tank to the vertical wall of our hull with 4 Weldmount studs.

PVA drys clear. The look really depends on what you're putting it on. Porous timbers will really soak it up wereas hardwoods don't take as much. It's certainaly not a shine finish but it looks good enough for the engine room (certainly stops oils from soaking in and staining timbers) and for the inside of lockers and in the bilge. I'm stuck in Europe right now (there's a new term "Covidcast" meaning cast ashore somewhere due to Covid) so it will be a while before I could take any photos back in NZ.
