High Water Alarm

My boat has a fairly deep sump under the engine which is where the bilge pump pick up is. As I have deck steppend rigs there is never any water at all in my bilge. I have a diaphram style jabsco pump with its pick up in the sump under the engine. There is an upper bilge area that I was going to install a Johnson 4000 GPH submersible pump and since this pump should only see emergency use I was going to wire a float switch with an alarm.

I have a good float switch and am getting the pump. Im looking for suggestions for the alarm. I would like something that could be periodically tested.

Re: High Water Alarm

A piezo-electric buzzer makes an excellent High-Water Alarm.

And/or ➥ S.P.D.T. Switch Cct - Same switch for Bilge Pump Auto / Test On, as for Combination (Anchor / Tri-Colour) Lights. Note that the toggle 'Up' (A) position, closes between the middle common and... Cruisers & Sailing Photo Gallery

What about going this route?

SPX Johnson Pump for Boatbuilders, Pleasure, Commercial & Fishing boats

Maybe not bother with a float switch at all. Just install the alarm and wire the pump with a simple on off switch? Like I said there is never any water in my bilge so this pump is really just for emergencies to supplement the other manual pumps.

Re: High Water Alarm

We have a piezo alarm in the engine room, there is no switch, the circuit goes to a Perko type male 2 pin plug hanging at the right height. When the water touches it, the piezo starts whining, as the immersion increases (or the boat heels) the alarm starts to shriek.
