Garden hoses, what do you use

I am sick of having all the kinks in my garden hose. They just get worse, I can never coil the hose properly. I have tried all sorts of hoses.

At home I have an old sears rubber hose that works very well, but weighs a ton.

I have tried those expanding hoses you see on TV, but at least the ones I have tried disintegrated in a short period of time. Ideally I want something that is 50'.

So what have you found to work, or do all solutions wind up like what I currently have.

PS, not sure if this is right forum for this, move it if there is a better one pls.

Figure 8 coil it, like line. No problem. Do NOT try to make round coils unless you want to learn the flip trick.

Yeah, it doesn't stay like that in the locker...

Was wondering if anyone had success with these, I tried one a long time ago, and not so much, but maybe they are better now...

I got a high quality rubber hose instead of plastic POS hoses. I coil it and it has "memory" but its is always flexible and easy to handle.

You can buy the "flat" fabric hoses, that come on a flat "winder". So there's no coiling the hose, you just wind it back onto the flat winder when you are done using it.

I use what I guess you call the flip trick on my hose (also any long line, or shore power cord, or any electrical cord, or a pressure washer hose). Alternating loops, so twists are cancelled. Takes not much longer to do than normal coiling, and helps prevent the hose from kinking.

Yep, they are worth the weight. I have a 25' and a 50'.

Exactly. It's not the cord of the hose but how it is coiled.

We secure our hose for the lazarette, with a tie to keep it together; Jim does do the "flip trick," and our present hose (50 ft. or thereabouts) is molded so that it can't kink, it has internal "spreaders" for its entire length. The OP should look for hose than can't kink. Our present one is at least 15 yrs. old.

Zero g hose, isn’t a collapsible hose, yet goes flat when no water is in it, drinking water safe. I fit 100’ of it in a single milk crate, with my 10’ water filter and a hose spigot.
Takes up way less room

Don't be to sure about that hose. Most of them use surgical tubing inside, it breaks down in the tropics. It may be heavy but the very best rubber looking hose is the way to go. PVC hose breaks down in the heat and sun. Then, once you get to the tropics and your hose has turned into a POS, they only sell more POS hose down there. Take advantage of being in the first world and get something good and heavy. I bet my two red rubber hoses will last forever.

I’ve had them for two years so far, and have had two of them in the Sun for most of those two years, so far still good.
I used to use the white RV Hoses, cause of them being OK with drinking water.
‘Real” hoses are just too bulky and heavy for me, I need to save space where I can.

On edit, I consider a hose an expendable item, I don’t expect infinite life, if they last more than three years I’ll be happy

Ditto. Have had two for about two years and they are great. I use a short one on the wash down and the 50’ for everything else. They stow easily and don’t link.

You guys are funny, those hoses last about 2.5 years. I'm thinking you should have 20 year hoses.
