Galley Faucet

We need a new galley faucet - the old one just became a geyser when I was cleaning and draining the water tanks. I would appreciate any thoughts you might have regarding pros/cons of regular spout vs. swan neck (gooseneck?) spout. The galley sink is single, narrow, and about 10" deep. Have a hand pump in addition to the pressure water, which we will leave as is. The Whale pump fixtures look like they will plumb in easily (ha, except for having to remove the sink to get at it). The new faucet will have a single lever control instead of separate H/C. The swan neck specs indicate around 9" clearance between the water outlet and top of sink. It would be nice to have that room to fill larger pans, etc. But I can envision rinsing a plate and putting water all over the counter, or trying to use that faucet underway when heeled over, not such a good idea. I don't want to get the new swan neck installed, only to find out after the fact why we should have stuck with the original design. I haven't found anything on this topic in searching the forums - any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Galley Faucet

Patti,
I think you are talking about a long fixed spout that curves well above the sink. If so, I would recommend going with a faucet with a pull out spout on a hose. I find this type of faucet much more practical than a fixed spout in the galley sink. You can raise the spout above the sink to wash/rinse pans that are larger than the sink. You can also fill a kettle or pot with water without having to hold the kettle over the sink. Just set it on the counter next to the sink and pull the spout over the kettle.

+1 for the faucet with the pull out sprayer. We just installed this recently. The brass spigot is for the salt water foot pump which can also be switched over to use fresh water in case our electric pump fails or we want to save power.

Yes, the pull out faucet makes a lot of sense. However, it does seem like they are larger, and our space is limited. I'll keep looking but not too long - the season here is short! Thanks for your comments.

Re: Galley Faucet

The swan is a good idea, hard to do anything in those small sinks anyway! also, I like the single lever faucet if you have hot water, otherwise you waste a lot of water trying to adjust the temp and you can Just flip the lever off between rinsings and save water....

I put this in and also replaced the sink with a composit one from lowes. It's a standard wash sink 12 inches deep, 100 bucks. best deal around.

Mmm, nice, but I have a Barbie sink, can't have the faucet bigger than the sink.

Yeah my sink was stainless and tiny and rusted, bent and had screw holes around the perimeter. So a little time with a jig saw and viola, this one measures 24 x 28 x 12, or something close to that...I think.

Or this at Lowes: Shop Peerless Chrome 1-Handle Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet at Lowes.com

No need to go to a marine retailer for a kitchen faucet.

Re: Galley Faucet

We have the tall gooseneck like some of the photos posted, with a pull-out sprayer. The tall gooseneck allows our largest pot to fit under it.
We also have a fairly large double sink. The admiral loves it.

Re: Galley Faucet

I like the big gooseneck with sprayer, but they are at least 16" above the level of sink, and a big sprayer. The pull-out style above posted by Cotemar might be more practical. There are some smaller goosenecks available, but they don't seem to have sprayers. Maybe this weekend we will make a mockup with hose or cardboard to see how the dimensions work. This admiral would be thrilled with a second sink of any size.
