Fynspray WS 62 Faucet Rebuild or Replace?

I have a 1985 Hans Christian 43T. Completing a major refit to include a galley rebuild. Installed new solid surface counter tops, etc...

I have a decision to make with the two Fynspray hand pump faucets that originally came with the boat. I do want to have both a fresh water and a salt water hand pump at the sink so that I do not need to worry about 12V pump power to get water. I also do not want foot pumps.

My question: Should I stick with the existing Fynspray pumps, just rebuild and polish them? Or is there a more modern reliable hand pump alterative? Something that will last as long as the Fynspray stuff.

One other question... I assume it is better to have one for sea water and one for fresh? I was considering having just one with a Y valve to choose between sea / fresh water but it seems like it would possibly cause issues in the future?

Feedback on experiences appreciated!

I have not used the pump pictured, but there’s not much built these days that will last 30+ years…

Don't know your location-but I found replacement parts online:

Re: Fynspray WS 62 Faucet Rebuild or Replace?

I have one exactly like yours in fresh water service on a Tanzer 22 we bought in 1981. I have replaced the leather piston in it once or twice, repacked the piston seal a few times, and thought about replacing the brass check valve ball at the bottom of the pump with a rubber ball a couple of times but have never done so.

We have a second Fynspray hand pump of a different design on the Tanzer that empties the melt water from the ice box into the sink. I backed it up with a small electric pump because my wife got tired of pumping it, but when pumped by hand, it happily sucks through the idle electric pump. The Fynspray pumps are solid simple hand pumps. The one you have is also pretty. My second one is not so nice.

The Fynspray rep at the boat show">Annapolis Boat Show showed me how to take them apart. I have never bought parts from Fynspray but have been able to find them at old time, long in business hardware stores.

Our Pacific Seacraft 34 has Whale foot pumps for both fresh and salt water to the galley sinks; salt on the washing side and fresh on the rinsing side. We also have a normal two faucet electric pump pressurized kitchen fixture that serves the two sinks. Foot pumps are nice because you can use both hands while pumping water, but they are not pretty as your pump.

Re: Fynspray WS 62 Faucet Rebuild or Replace?

I am going through a galley refresh, and trying to decide if I should upgrade to the fynspray from a whale. No doubt, if I had one, I would rebuild it.

On my boat, salt water is a foot pump, and fresh water a hand pump. I like that arrangement because when washing dishes in salt water, I have both hands free.
