I have one exactly like yours in fresh water
service on a Tanzer 22 we bought in 1981. I have replaced the leather piston in it once or twice, repacked the piston seal a few times, and thought about replacing the brass check valve ball at the bottom of the pump with a rubber ball a couple of times but have never done so.
We have a second Fynspray hand pump of a different design on the Tanzer that empties the melt water from the ice box into the sink. I backed it up with a small
electric pump because my wife got tired of pumping it, but when pumped by hand, it happily sucks through the idle
electric pump. The Fynspray pumps are solid simple hand pumps. The one you have is also pretty. My second one is not so nice.
The Fynspray rep at the
boat show">Annapolis Boat Show showed me how to take them apart. I have never bought
parts from Fynspray but have been able to find them at old time, long in business
hardware stores.
Our
Pacific Seacraft 34 has Whale foot pumps for both fresh and
salt water to the
galley sinks;
salt on the
washing side and fresh on the rinsing side. We also have a normal two faucet
electric pump pressurized kitchen fixture that serves the two sinks. Foot pumps are nice because you can use both hands while pumping water, but they are not pretty as your pump.
