Re: Freshwater Head help -- Peggie Hall your input appreciated!

Peggie,

Awesome thanks again.

Here is the head..it requires use of their solenoid as well

Freshwater tank to electric head
Electric head 1" discharge to holding tank, NO Y valve for direct discharge
Holding tank will have 1" vent as Peggie recommends
1.5" discharge from holding tank to macerator, to 1" discharge hose with vented loop 12" above waterline, to 1" discharge thru hull 4-6" above waterline

I assume because I'm using freshwater I dont need a vented loop between tank and head.

Other than people rolling their eyes at discharge above waterline, any issues with this setup?

Thanks!
Almost done with this. If I ever get boarded, do I *have* to have a deck pump out fitting, or does the holding tank satisfy the legal requirements as long as I discharge overboard in approved/offshore areas only.

TY

The regs require that you have theability to empty the holding tank via pumpout... which means you have to have a deck pumpout fitting unless you want to bring a dock pumpout hose aboard to pump out the tank through an inspection port in the top of the tank (assuming there is one).

So this is all plumbed and working great. No smells yet but time will tell. Thanks again!

Related question. I want to plumb my head's sink drain overboard by Tee'ing into an existing thru hull.

Given my holding tank discharge is above the waterline and right under the sink, is there anyway to tie my sink drain into that line WITHOUT causing tank smell to come up the sink? Would a check valve on the sink drain line work?

I'm thinking not, but it's the most convenient drain solution so I wanted to ask...

TY!

Sorry but not only is it a bad idea, but USCG regs prohibit any connection between black water (sewage) and gray water (galley, bath and shower water) plumbing due to the risk of exposure to e-coli and other harmful bacteria in the event of a backup into the sink.

Where does your sink drain go now?
