From someone who is very concerned with food temps high and low, Gord is correct, maximum recommended. But as I have already stated most home freezers probably have trouble going much below +10.

I noticed one of your sources is Texas A & M, this is were I attended school for food processing/freezing. Go Aggies.

Gord, thank you very much for researching this to the extent you did. I know you have a lot of fan mail, but I'd like to point out the value of your contributions to this board. Those are some very good references. Thank you for such factual posts.

Having seen the links, I certainly see that 0F is the suggested freezer temperature. Now that I see this is the suggested temp, I have to wonder why it is that not many freezers go that low. Mine is designed for 15-25 or so range. "Dorm fridges" don't even do as well as the one I have now. Certainly not many boat freezers go that low due to the power requirements involved (excepting the very high end ones).

Still, nobody seems to know what happens from a biological standpoint at temperatures between 0 and 30. Did I stump the board?

Island Mike: Any courses with funny names like, "E. Coli Lifecycles Under Solid State H2O Conditions 101?"

ha ha
