Force 10 oven doesn’t get above 275deg

Believe me, I’ve lived with this issue and researched it for years.

So far these steps were done w/o help:
the jets have been cleaned and work perfectly, good profane flow to all burners, metal tray in oven is in place, regulator on propane tank is new, new thermocouple.

More ideas people!! I need more ideas ….

TIA

Re: Force 10 oven doesn’t get above 275deg

I had the same problem with a Dometic. After wrestling with it for months and doing all the things that you did I finally disassembled the whole thing and found the final jet that fed the burner had an almost microscopic flake of thread sealer partially blocking it. Blew it out and it has been working "adequately" ever since. I say "adequately" as these little marine ovens never seem to work "well".

When you wrote "good profane flow" was that a typo or were you accurately describing your approach to the problem?

Same problem for me too, the gas fitter enlarged all the jets and the pot bottoms are now sooty, the oven is ok and cooks a pizza and bread…. But not as hot as I’d like. I’m going to revert to the original jets, the gas guy got it wrong.

New regulator of the same capacity if lethargic before will be lethargic after. Suggest trying one with a larger delivery capacity, not pressure, volume. As skipperpete described increasing jet size without increasing delivery volume doesn't help. Also suggest using a proper gauge, in US it would be inches water column to know that the delivery to the burners is correct.

There is a reason that the stove manufactuers all warn against this. enlarging the metering oriface increases the amount of propane, but the amount of air blended in stays the same. Hence incomplete combustion, leading to excess soot and interior air pollution. DON'T DO THIS!

To the OP, somewhere in your system there is a restriction. You might have to take the whole thing apart to find it. If you are getting the right about of propane, then the temperature can't be that low. A 3/8" regulator will be large enough for this oven so increasing it will not have a noticeable effect.

Have you tried tallking to the people at Force10? They will have a good feel for the most likely places to look first.

Re: Force 10 oven doesn’t get above 275deg

The easy thing to do is change the jets. Or actually drill them out to a bigger size but not too big. The hole is pretty tiny so you need very small drills and a pair of digital calipers to keep track of them The burners on force10 have a min max btu range that is acceptable. Owner of force 10 (before they were sold to ENO) told me they use the smallest jet I think for liability reasons. He said ABSOLUTELY you can enlarge the jets and he sent me a chart for jet sizing. LPG jet size vs btu is easily found online. My force10 oven will get to 400 degrees in about 10 min. and my large burner will boil water way faster now. Broiler is the best, burgers and chops cook in 8 to 10 min. Depending on the age/model of yours the oven burner is the hardest to get to. Top burners are really simple. The broiler is pretty simple to get to. My force10 works better than my home stove after I tuned it up. I have the jet sizes in a book on my boat. I'm happy to share when I get back to the boat prob tomorrow or tuesday. I have "tuned" all my friends Force10s and some other brands too. As stated before too big and you will have a rich mixture with soot (and maybe a CO hazard as well) YOu can get WAY more performance from your stove with a simple jet size change.....

Very interesting! Please post your info publicly here on CF, for there are a lot of us F-10 stove owners on board, watching avidly.

And thanks!

The burning question is” do your pots soot up?”
My flames are yellow tipped but the oven seems ok. Either way, I’m replacing the 3 hob jets

One of the big reasons we converted to an all electric galley and never looked back. A modern Breville countertop oven is revolutionary for the galley.

Re: Force 10 oven doesn’t get above 275deg

We have a Dometic and I found the oven undercooks and the reason is very very simple - the manufacturer saved whole 6 dollars on insulation. Sides of the galley furniture are burned well, but the chicken is not.

Our ex was an old Plastimo oven. It was easily 80 degs centigrade hotter - and never burned the furniture.

Oh but why make things well, as our fathers did.

I am interested too. When in Europe someone passed off and sold a container of butane mix as propane to us. It burned way too hot. Diagnosed and back to running on propane it is back to itself but a little low. Made me realize how the right jetting can make a big difference.

Re: Force 10 oven doesn’t get above 275deg

I took the advice to call Force10. Call went thru right away. Very friendly person answering my questions. 1-800-663-8515.

Here’s what I was told to do:
1. Soak the jet in rubbing alcohol
2. Use a toothbrush to gently clean
3. Use a toothpick to gently clean gas holes
4. Before reinstalling, turn the fuel on briefly to create back pressure. That will clear the line of any obstacles restricting flow.

Going to go get rubbing alcohol now!

Don't waste your money, rubbing alcohol is mostly water with some scent added.
Get the real stuff, 99% Isopropyl, it works, and you'll find many other uses for it.

We cleaned the jet per Force 10 instructions
Not much improvement
Installed a new jet from Force 10. Works great
