MIT researchers have developed a prototype of a device that can turn seawater into safe drinking water
. At this time this is just a concept project
for a membrane-free, low power
and affordable desalination system.
MIT rsearchers used ion-concentration polarization snd electrodialysis to separate the salt
from the water
, instead of using filters and high-pressure pumps.
If they succeed in improving the yield and progress to commercialization these could displace traditional watermakers on cruising boats.
